“Give It All To Your Fam"
by Lizzie West
Listen, this whole thing is miraculous. When you eventually hear the entire story, you’re gonna know …what I know… that there is, literally, no way anyone can doubt the Magic of this Life anymore.
If you did before - you won’t be able to now! - or at least, not once you hear the whole tale… once you dig into the tragic - comic nature of it all, the divine timing! - I mean… truly… once you find out what, really, actually happened … it’s just like… . woW!
Thank God for my Fam. That’s all I can say.
When I first sent up smoke signals, I had no idea whether anyone would care, or come find me, or anything. But, within months, I knew I had friends as old as time, Salt of The Earth people who love me for my music and my work in the world… friends in the Business and friends in the heart of the country who still believe in me and are on board to help me return to my carer in every way they can.
Once I knew that returning to work in commercial recording and touring was the right thing to do, Adam Saunders, Richard King, Pete Szkolka, Kevin Walsh, and Lisa Bartlett were among the first old friends I called in to help me organize a first concert back, since my first choice was to base my come back out of Columbia, Missouri.
When I first left the music industry, I had spent a good 5 years building community in the Columbia Arts and Music scene. I bought an old house on St. Joseph Street with the money my mother left me in 2005. I used those funds to buy the 1869 Village Victorian and I turned it into a “Road House” with some fans from the community. We called it the Road House, or The Holy Road House, because I was developing it to become a boarding house for artists traveling the Holy Road. I slowly worked with Alex George, and then Cameron Melville - from the East Coast, to create a pilot program for a touring co-operative. We formed an alliance, and a non profit organization around that alliance. We called it Holy Road Tours Union.
That was 2005-2008/10.
Today is more than 20 years after those first days I landed in Columbia, Missouri to start a Road House, with the finite intention of creating a solution for artists like me, who did not want to participate in the war machine and perpetuate a broken system in the music business anymore, but, instead, who aimed to tour and build real community, especially during these critical years in history and these evolving times in our culture.
Fast forward to 2023, and I was literally climbing out of a horrible war in my home, a trap set for me by my adversaries…I was crawling my way out of an unbelievable rubble in my life, seeking sustainability after that crazy world panic of 2020, making sure my daughter, Louise, and I were safe, that our little homesteading family was okay and that I could, secretly, begin, returning to work, to see if I might still have a chance at a victorious return to my career in commercial recording and touring.
